Batik: Heritage & Art.
“Batik is an excellent example of cultural heritage that has transcended borders and is celebrated worldwide. This traditional method of wax-resist dyeing on cloth has transformed any surface into a canvas of beauty, with intricate layers and flowing lines that are simply breathtaking.
As a working artist who creates Batik Tjanting (Batik Handrawn or Batik Tulis), I can attest that the same level of creativity and energy goes into making both batik framed art and wearable clothing.
For me, Batik runs in my blood, and my joyful abstract art is a reflection of my life, poured out through my brush and Tjanting pen. My work is often mistaken for African art due to its rich colors and bold patterns, but in truth, it is simply the result of my desire to draw freely with an unconstrained style, to create something that not only captivates the eyes but touches the heart.
So, the next time you see my Batik art, remember, it’s not just a pretty picture. It’s a representation of my identity, my passion, and my culture. And who knows, maybe it’ll inspire you to create something beautiful too!” ~ Joey Kher
